About the Vinnies Van
How did it start?
Vinnies Van is a Special Works conducted by the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Parramatta Diocesan area has seen an increased need with the number of homeless growing.
The aim of the Vinnies Van is twofold. First and foremost, to help alleviate the desperation of the homeless people in the Parramatta, Blacktown and Penrith areas, in the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul.
Secondly, to establish a Special Work for the youth, young adults and adults to feel responsible for and, to live out our Christian mission, whilst developing our gifts of compassion and empathy.
What are our aims?
Incidental to the visitation aspect, food and referral is provided, where necessary.
What do we do?
Our work is one of visiting the homeless and offering those people food, a friendly face and a listening ear.
How do we do it?
Vinnies Van operates 7 nights a week in Penrith and Parramatta area and in St Marys and Blacktown on occasional nights.
The Van is on the streets from 7.00pm to 12.00pm.
Who does Vinnies Van?
The members of Vinnies Van are all Volunteers coming from all walks of life, with a common bond, being a desire to help those who are less fortunate than themselves.
Who provides the Funds?
Vinnies Van is funded by generous donations from the St. Vincent de Paul Society, local service clubs and the public
